What the numbers mean
Pakistan is the only source of true Himalayan pink salt, but most of it leaves in raw form and is packed and branded abroad. Selling finished, packaged products to US buyers keeps much more of that value.
Where it is made
All pink salt comes from the Salt Range, with the Khewra mine in Jhelum district the best known. Processing and packing happen around Khewra and in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi.
Where it is sold
The US is the largest buyer, followed by the UAE, the UK and China. Across all products, the US bought $5.76 billion of goods from Pakistan in 2025, more than any other country.

US rules to know before you ship
- Food grade salt is food. The packing facility must be registered with the FDA and each shipment needs prior notice.
- Salt lamps with cords and switches should use safety listed electrical parts. Faulty parts have caused US recalls.
- Health claims on salt products can break US advertising rules. Keep claims simple and true.
- Pakistan registered Khewra Pink Rock Salt as a Geographical Indication in 2022 and sets a minimum export price of $130 per ton.

Does Himalayan salt need FDA registration?
Food grade salt does. The facility that packs it must be registered with the FDA. Salt lamps and decor are not food.
What should salt lamp exporters watch out for?
The cord, switch and bulb holder. Use safety listed parts, because faulty electrical parts have caused recalls in the US.
Do you buy Himalayan salt from us and resell them?
No. We are not a distributor. We never own your goods. You sell directly to US buyers, and we earn a monthly fee plus commission only on paid orders.
